GErald Clerc belongs to a line of jewelers and watchmakers with roots tracing back to 1874. Clerc's watchmaking family is famous for creating unique models for General Charles de Gaulle, Princess Grace of Monaco, and other prominent personalities, such as Maurice Chevalier and Salvador Dali. Gerald Clerc's family has always developed watches, first in conjunction with other companies - Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, and Jaeger-LeCoultre - until the end of the 1970s, having then switched to independent watchmaking business.
GErald Clerc, himself, had an ambitious dream to develop a true watch collection under the name Clerc. First of all, he concentrated on the development of a uniquely constructed case. He created an amazing model comparable to a bold octagon with rounded angles and softened lines.
Clerc has been quite successful on the challenging American market, having opened up over 40 high-end stores. Today, Clerc, based in Geneva, is focusing on the international market with a set goal to develop and introduce more complicated timepieces.
Inspired by the unique case, GErald Clerc has reworked its lines to introduce more sophisticated, elegant, and innovative watches. Clerc's new Odyssey watch is worth special attention. The Odyssey line inspired by space research and exploration comprises watches with distinctively powerful and authentic nature. Created in a resolutely contemporary and even trendy spirit, the timepiece demonstrates a finish reflecting the highest tradition of haute horlogerie.

The dial of the Clerc Odyssey catches attention due to its openwork design demonstrating some insides of the watch. The glance is caught by the hollowed out and raised number '12', as well as the retrograde date display and 120-hour power reserve.
The Clerc Odyssey watch will greatly surprise you with its innovative and patented protection for the crown. The world premiere represents a sliding system that alternately liberates one of three pushbuttons: crown, interior rotating bezel, and retrograde date. The timepiece is equipped with an exclusive self-winding 45-jewel double-barrel manufacture movement with retrograde date, visible balance wheel and power reserve indicator.
The reverse side is equipped with a screw-in case-back and sapphire crystal protected by a kind of 'grill' shaped as the Clerc logo. The delicate finishing reveals meticulous attention to detail - chamfered bridges, black PVD rotor, blued screws, and nice circular Cotes de Geneve decoration. One more recently developed watch collection from Clerc is called Icon 8. The virtually chic watch is characterized by pure lines, ideal proportions, and truly contemporary elegance. It has been developed with or without a variety of complications: large date, power reserve indicator, large date and second time zone, and an oversized vertical-bridge tourbillon.
The Clerc CXX Diamonds line reveals the Clerc case subjected to all types of gem-setting. The introduction of the sporty Clerc CXX Plongeur is planned for 2008. The brand is also currently working on a new line of ladies' mechanical watches.
Clerc has announced it will annually produce 4 - 5,000 pieces. The Odyssey line will begin at the price of about CHF 14,000. Besides the US, the Caribbean and Switzerland, Clerc watches are distributed in Asia, being well-positioned in Japan arousing much interest of the trade press. Clerc watches are also being introduced in the Middle East, to be followed by the launch in Russia and Italy.
