Zenith Christophe Colomb Watch - Homage to Bold Explorer

Oct 08, 2010
The timepiece manufacture Zenith is excited to introduce an extraordinary watch, devoted to Christopher Columbus, who in 1492 sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, hoping to find a route to India.

Similar to the 15th century traveler, that boldly explored new horizons, the brand pushes back the boundaries of technology to discover new perspectives.

A true accomplishment in the mechanical watchmaking, the new Christophe Colomb watch has adopted an appealing 45 mm case, crafted from 18 carat white, rose or yellow gold. It is built to be water-resistant up to 30 ATM.

At the heart of the new Zenith watch is beating a reliable manually-wound Academy 8804 movement. Set with 45 jewels, it operates at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and provides a 50-hour power reserve.

Moreover, this caliber is endowed with a unique gyroscopic system, which ensures perfect horizontal positioning of the regulating organ. The gyroscopic cage comprises 166 individual parts, 10 conical-geared wheels and 6 ball bearings.

The case of the new Christophe Colomb watch is fitted with front and back high-grade sapphire crystals, featuring anti-reflective coating on both sides. They also expose excrescent domes covered with a gyroscopic module.

Beneath the top sapphire crystal is an alluring silvered dial, embellished with a barleycorn guilloche motif. It strikes the eye with a breathtaking gyroscopic cage, presented at 6 o’clock. The essential functions of hours and minutes are displayed in an off-centered sub-dial, nestled at 12 o’clock. It reveals black lacquered Roman numerals and blued stainless steel hands, gliding over them.

The small seconds counter, adorned with Clous de Paris pattern, is found at 9 o’clock. The power reserve indicator, offered on a segment extending from 2 to 4 o’clock, ensures the overall equilibrium of the dial.

Fitting this model to the wearer’s wrist is a black crocodile leather strap. It terminates in an 18-carat gold triple folding buckle. The issue of the new highly sophisticated Zenith watch is strictly limited to 250 pieces.
