The
new Chopard L.U.C Engine One H watch is a technically complex timepiece created as an aesthetic hybrid that successfully combined automobile mechanics with fine watchmaking. The novelty is animated by the brand’s
in-house tourbillon movement, with finishes inspired by those typically seen on engines. The dial’s horizontal layout makes one think of the design of racing-car cockpits.
The heart of the new Chopard watch, the
hand-wound tourbillon movement L.U.C 04.02-L, has been designed and constructed by Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier.
The chronometer-certified 29-jewel movement is operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The barrel provides a 60-hour of power reserve. The horizontal grooves in the bridges on the dial side have been inspired by cylinder heads.
The
dial of the L.U.C. Engine One H watch guarantees perfect legibility. The hour and minutes hands are conventionally positioned in the center. The power reserve read-off is featured on the left, reminding a fuel gauge. The small seconds mounted on the tourbillon are presented on the right, looking like a speedometer.
The inner and outer sides of the alligator leather strap, demonstrating five rows of overstitching, evoke the look of 1960s - 1970s automobile upholstery.
The
case of the model (44.50 X 35.00mm) is fashioned from
titanium, a light, scratch-resistant and eminently biocompatible material. It is
50-meter water-resistant.
The
new Chopard L.U.C Engine One H watch belongs to a
limited edition of 100 pieces.

The new
Chopard L.U.C Louis-Ulysse – The Tribute watch celebrates the brand’s 150-th anniversary and pays tribute to Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the brand’s founder. The model represents a pocket-watch that can be turned into a wristwatch. The watch is also a modern reinterpretation of an ingenious invention that allowed a pocket-watch to be worn on the wrist. The invention was introduced by
Karl Scheufele I in 1912. The timepiece will be offered in a
limited number of 150 pieces.
According to horological literature, Karl Scheufele I received a patent for special lugs to be used for fastening a pocket-watch and turning it into a wristwatch. Inspired by this idea, the Chopard designers and watchmakers have given birth to the L.U.C Louis Ulysse – The Tribute watch to be magically transformed from a pocket-watch into a wristwatch in just one swift move, and then switched back to a pocket-watch.
The “adjustable lugs” system introduced by Karl Scheufele I has inspired the development of a remarkably
reliable cradle system for much more comfortable handling.
