Gianluca Genoni - New Freediving Record with Blancpain 500 Fathoms on His Wrist

Oct 04, 2010
Gianluca Genoni, the one who set more than 15 freediving records, has performed one more feat. At Zoagli, near Portofino, Italy, the diver descended to a depth of 152 meters in freediving mode, having established a new world record in the discipline.

Blancpain, having cooperated with Gianluca Genoni since 2007, is pleased to warmly congratulate the Italian freediver on the new record.

During the impressive freedive, Gianluca Genoni tested new equipment in deep waters. While descending, the diver used the fastest underwater scooter in the world Ė it can reach a speed of more than 100 meters per minute.

Gianluca Genoni was also wearing an inflatable life-jacket prototype created by the Mares brand. The life-jacket is developed to immediately bring the diver back to the surface in case of any problem. Gianluca Genoniís remarkable freedive was carefully studied by the Divers Alert Network researchers who work on improving the security of this mode of diving.

Gianluca Genoni was also accompanied by a reliable diverís timepiece - the Blancpain 500 Fathoms watch. The ultra-technical diverís wristwatch demonstrates a highly-appealing sporty design and boasts 1,000-meter water-resistance. The timepiece is equipped with a helium decompression valve.

The 48 mm case is sculptured in brushed titanium and accommodates a self-winding movement - Calibre 1315, developed specifically for the brandís sports wristwatches.

The Blancpain 500 Fathoms watch is a highly reliable diverís companion based on the brandís rich expertise in the demanding world of diverís timepieces, dating back to the year 1953 when the first Fifty Fathoms watch was unveiled.
