Audemars Piguet Openwork Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Watch - Sophisticated Technical and Aesthetic Accomplishment

Nov 14, 2011
The timepiece manufacture Audemars Piguet gladly delivers its new Openwork Royal Oak 40th Anniversary watch. Its issue is strictly limited to 40 pieces.

The new Audemars Piguet watch is set in a 950 platinum case. The model is covered by a glare-proofed sapphire crystal. The same glass is used for its bottom. The timepiece is offset by an octagonal bezel, bolted down to the case with 8 polished hexagonal screws. The water-resistance of the case is assured down to 50 meters.

Ticking inside the case is a manufactory-made self-winding Calibre 5122 movement. It has a diameter of 28.40mm and is 3.05mm thick. The mechanism comprises 247 individual parts, including 36 jewels. It incorporates a bridge with manual finishes, which include polished bevels, satin-brushed edges and a perlage on the recesses.

Integrated within the movement is also a 22K gold monobloc oscillating weight, which reveals a raised inscription “AP Royal Oak 1972-2012” and a “tapiserie” motif on its external segment. It runs at the rate of 19,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 40-hour power reserve.

The new Audemars Piguet Openwork Royal Oak 40th Anniversary watch provides central hours and minutes as well as a date. The functions are presented on an open-worked slate-grey dial. It is equipped with white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands, inlaid with luminescent compound. The date aperture at 3 o’clock is rendered in metallic sapphire with a vertically drawn pattern.

The new Audemars Piguet watch is mounted on a 950 platinum bracelet, closed with an AP folding clasp.
