Artya Presents Artpiece 1/1 and Coup de Foudre Watches

May 28, 2010
The Swiss watchmaker Artya is extremely pleased to bring out its new striking watches christened Artpiece 1/1 and Coup de foudre. These novelties represent a clever blend of high-performance engineering, superior craftsmanship and modern art.

Each of the new Artya watches has been infused with a highly personal design. These horological products have definitely announced a new era in the world of watchmaking. The brand’s best craftsmen have brought emotion and creativity to the forefront, thus relegating the concept of time to the background.

The head of the watch company, Yvan Arpa, is a highly qualified professional, who gained his experience in watchmaking at Sector No Limit, Baume & Mercier, Hublot and Romain Jerome. He came up with the idea of transforming the traditional timepiece into a piece of art, a happy medium between a painting and a sculpture.

To achieve this goal, he employed a skilled painter Dominique Arpa-Cirkpa, his wife. It was Dominique, who created the bewitching dials of the Artpiece 1/1 collection. A person of creative vision, she successfully used different colors, paste, bristles, brushes, and knives in order to turn her husband’s dream into reality. Every watch from the Artpiece 1/1 line, composed of 360 pieces, is unique.

Each of the models mentioned is designed around a self-winding mechanical movement executed entirely by the company’s masters in Switzerland. It features a balance wheel, moving back and forth at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Distinguished by the matchless exactitude, the movement incorporates noncircular square-shaped gears, developed by Mr. Pascal Winkler, the renowned HES Professor of micro-technical engineering at the HEArc, located in Le Locle, Switzerland.

The heart of every watch is beating inside an impressive engraved and moulded case rendered in stainless steel grade 316. The case of the Artpiece 1/1 watch reveals a satin-finished black PVD-treated surface.

The Coup de foudre watch, with the name translated in English as ‘a bolt of lightning’, boasts a case, embossed, defaced, tortured and struck by lightning, i.e.100,000 volts, 200,000 volts, 500,000 volts and even 1,000,000 volts.

The water-resistance of the models is assured to 50 meters.

Every dial represents an exclusive piece of art. Each item is embellished by hand, utilizing 17 specific artistic techniques. They employ a combination of collage, application of dyes and pigments, forging and others.

The final touch is provided by a hand-sewn strap manufactured from high-tech rubber coupled with processed “Alzavel waterproof” calfskin or with “Crazy frog” tanned toad skin.
