Feb 22, 2011
By launching its Startimer Automatic Pilot’s watch, the horological company Alpina remains true to its reputation of proposing the best. The novelty will be officially unveiled in the course of the forthcoming Baselworld 2011 trade show.

Issued in a limited edition of just 8888 pieces, the new Alpina watch is allied with all technical features, inherent to an aviator’s watch. These attributes include obvious hands, oversized numerals, clearly viewable minute graduation and an emblematic white triangle, exposed at 12 o’clock.

The brand’s esteemed specialists placed great value on perfect legibility of the timepiece. The black dial is completed with Arabic numerals, which pop out against dark background. The numbers are coupled with hour-markers, also performed in white. The digits are also joined by intermediate indexes, larger in size.

The display of the new Startimer Automatic Pilot’s watch features the key markers of time. The white leaf-shaped hours and minutes hands are coated with a luminous compound. Responsible for the seconds is a slim central hand, also white and lume-applied. Its tail section is equipped with the brand’s signature red triangle.

Additionally, the watch face offers a date indication, shown in the aperture at 6 o’clock. The word “Automatic” resides just above this exhibition window. The name of the brand, revealed beneath the white triangle at 12 o’clock, rounds off the noble appearance of the display.

The functions described are driven by a Swiss made automatic movement - caliber AL-525. It incorporates a black PVD-treated Alpina oscillating weight. The power reserve, provided by the mechanism, constitutes 42 hours.

The caliber is enclosed in a 44 mm stainless steel case, which demonstrates a satin-finished surface. It is combined with a round-shaped bezel, manufactured from the same material. Its surface is polished. The bezel encircles a high-grade sapphire crystal. The case-back is transparent. The water-resistance of the model is assured down to 100 meters.

At 3 o’clock the case reveals an easy-to-grasp winding crown. The latter harmonizes perfectly with elegant lugs, which open out into a black leather strap. It terminates in a new stainless steel folding buckle. Alternatively, the timepiece can be mounted on a metal bracelet.

The new Alpina watch will be delivered in a special gift box with a scale model of the renowned Cessna Citation Mustang business jet.
