Corum Creates Admiral's Cup Minute Repeater Tourbillon 45 Watch

Dec 18, 2009
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Admiralís Cup collection, the illustrious watchmaking house Corum is extremely pleased to introduce its innovative Admiralís Cup Minute Repeater Tourbillon 45 watch. As its name suggests, the sophisticated watch incorporates an exclusive movement, which brings together two of the most acclaimed horological complications: the Minute Repeater and the Tourbillon.

The 50th birthday of the Admiralís Cup collection has been marked by a remarkable horological accomplishment - the CO 010 caliber, the movement accommodated by the new Corum watch. The entire process of creating this exclusive movement required two years of painstaking efforts, invested by the brandís major specialists.

Paved with 29 jewels, it features a balance wheel, moving back and forth at the rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The bottom bridges of the movement expose the exclusive Corum top-quality finish and Cote de Geneve embellishment. The CO 010 caliber offers an advantage of a 72-hour power-reserve.

Every element produced, demonstrates unrivalled precision and beauty of the tone. The movement creators paid meticulous attention to such important characteristics of the movement as its power, expressed in decibels; precision, which implies note correctness; richness, expressed in number of partials, and its reverberation, meaning duration of each note.

The ringing mechanism is equipped with an inverted minutes-rack. Its uncommon position brings strength and accuracy to every note. If compared to conventional minute repeaters, it is larger in size, which ensures a wider lift angle to each tooth, extending the time between notes. The racks, responsible for hitting the gongs, are manufactured from highly-resistant and hardened steel. The countersprings, fixed to the racks, have been created to provide the best balance of the hitting strength and speed.

The movementís back exposes an inertial flywheel. This componentís rotation is used for regulating the rhythm during the ringing process. The gongs have been created from a unique alloy, with composition and thermal coating kept as a treasured secret by the manufacture. The gongs strike the hours on an A note and the minutes on a — sharp note. The precision of the entire mechanism is assured through a Tourbillon with a silicium escapement and pallets providing reliability and durability.

All the technical surprises of the Corum watch are housed in a case, measuring 45 mm in diameter. It is sculptured in 18kt red gold, featuring satin finish. The case demonstrates a crown engraved with the signature Corum key. The watch case is armed with a cambered twelve-sided sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The watch dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with grey PVD treatment. The tourbillon cage is opened to view at 5 oíclock. The dial is completed with red gold coated faceted hour and minutes hands, which are tipped with a coat of white Superluminova.

The Corum Admiralís Cup Minute Repeater Tourbillon 45 watch has been launched as a limited series of 10 items.

The Corum watch, reviewed by, is mounted on a black crocodile leather strap, finished with an 18kt red gold tongue buckle. The latter bears the engraved Corum logo. The water-resistance of this spectacular timekeeper is down to 30 meters.
