Meet New Rolex Watch - 116610 Submariner Date

Apr 22, 2010
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date watch, rendered in stainless steel, has a powerful successor - the Submariner Date watch, ref.116610. When compared to the previous model, this horological product not only received an extra "1" in its reference number, but also underwent a major innovation. While remaining true to its time-honored values, the brand has created an ultra-modern interpretation of the world-renowned Submariner with the luxury factor brought to the forefront.

The new 116610 Submariner Date watch from Rolex is proposed with an imposing 40 mm case. It outlines, however, a squarer profile, which is called Supercase by many Rolex admirers. The timepiece also features noticeably thicker lugs, which represent an equivalent to those of the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II model.

The new Rolex watch definitely strikes the eye by the considerable changes done with the Submarinerís acclaimed graduated unidirectional bezel. Retaining the gleam of the knurled edge, as well as the serrated functionality, it doesnít include the anodized black aluminum insert any longer.

The novel timekeeper is framed by an extremely glossy Cerachrom bezel, crafted from exclusive ceramic material, which has been created in the manufactureís workshops. The bezel is totally impervious to UV damage and saltwater corrosion, as well as remarkably scratch-resistant. The Cerachrom Submariner bezel exposes the brandís cutting-edge numeral-filling procedure, which employs the use of platinum.

The dial of the new Rolex Submariner watch is completed with enlarged hands and hour markers, designed in the famous "Maxi" style. Familiar to the public from the previous generation 16710 LV, these components are treated with Chromalight luminous compound, instead of the standard Superluminova coating. The Chromalight material is distinguished by a special blue glow, which ensures much higher level of underwater visibility.

The dial is embraced by the solid case, manufactured from the block of metal. It is fitted with an extremely strong case-back and a triple-sealing Rolex Triplock crown, screw-down to assure the water-resistance down to 300 meters.

The Submariner's well-known Oyster bracelet has been also reinterpreted. Similar to the watch case, it is sculptured in 904L stainless steel. The brushed center links of the bracelet, however, are solid this time. This construction may not improve functionality, yet it makes the watch very comfortable to wear. The bracelet terminates in a folding clasp, which represents a complex spring-loaded mechanism. Moreover, it is equipped with a clever and extremely accurate Glidelock extension device with a ratchet.

The Rolex 116610 Submariner Date watch is animated by the brandís proprietary self-winding Caliber 3135 movement, which can be admired as soon as the modelís screw-down case-back is removed. This mechanism incorporates a centrally mounted rotor and adjustable balance bridge. Although the movement inside the watch is the same that powered the previous Submariner models, it has been technically improved. For the hairspring with its Breguet terminal curve, the brandís craftsmen used the Rolex exclusive shock and magnetism-resistant Parachrom material, instead of the customary glucydur. The movement provides a power reserve of 50 hours.

The text on the Rolex watch dial informs the wearer that the movement has been submitted to various tests of the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC) and came out with flying colors.
