Meet Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second Watch

Nov 09, 2009
The Chopard Classic Racing collection is joined by a new elegant watch in rose gold - the 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second watch. The freshly designed dial of the chronograph watch demonstrates the split-seconds and pointer-type date functions. The Chopard watch will be available in a limited number of 500 pieces.

As suggested by its name, the Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second watch boasts a remarkable horological complication – the split-second chronograph function that allows measuring “split” or intermediate times.

The timepiece accommodates a mechanical self-winding movement, the precision of which is guaranteed by official COSC-chronometer certification. The movement animates a pointer-type date display presented via a sub-dial at 3 o’clock. It gives an advantage of a 42-hour power reserve.

The redesigned silvery dial of the new 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second watch features four different-size-and-design counters. The golden hands and hour markers are coated with Superluminova to provide perfect readability.

The small seconds sub-dial is positioned at 9 o’clock, while the pointer-type date indicator is found at 3 o’clock. The chronograph function is presented via a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and two seconds hands in the center.

The two hands in the center are the distinctive feature of a split-second chronograph watch. The first hand, with a red arrow at its tip, inspired by the 1000 Miglia race symbol, is a common chronograph seconds hand. The second hand, with a Superluminova-coated arrow tip, is the split-seconds hand.

The split-seconds function allows to measure a split time or two events starting at the same time but lasting for different time.

When you have to measure a split time, the chronograph is switched on with help of the 2 o’clock pusher and the split-seconds hand may be stopped with help of the pusher found at 8 o’clock. A second push allows it to immediately catch up with the initial chronograph seconds hand in the center that has continued running.

When you have to measure two events starting at the same time but lasting for different time, as soon as the split-seconds hand is stopped, you have to push the 2 o’clock pusher to bring the common chronograph second hand to a halt. This way you can read off two measurements before resetting the function with help of a pusher at 5 o’clock.

The case of the Chopard watch measures 44 mm in diameter and is sculptured in 18-K rose gold. You will notice a tachometric scale engraved around the bezel. The dial is shielded by a glare-resistant sapphire crystal. The case construction incorporates a screw-lock crown and is 100-meter water-resistant.

The new Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second watch is coupled with a hand-sewn brown alligator leather strap fitted with a safety folding clasp, also in 18-K rose gold.

As Watches.InfoNIAC.com found out, the name of Chopard has been associated with the Mille Miglia race since 1988. Nowadays the legendary race covers 1000 miles from Brescia to Rome and back and lasts for three days. The event attracts historical automobile enthusiasts from different parts of Europe.
